NCRI - The Iranian regime is greatly terrified of cyberspace and the possibility of free exchange of information on the internet. Regime’s television speaks about the dangers of internet and cyberspace every day. They are also scaring people with news about internet scams and stealing of information. But what is the reality? Why is the Iranian regime so scared of cyberspace? The following report will answer these questions:
As the Iranian regime itself admits, the new communication technology has got a firm foothold in the Iranian society.
Tasnim news agency affiliated with the terrorist Qods Force reported some figures on December 9th 2016. According to the latest statistics, the total assigned lines (mobile phones) reached to 150 million and 230 thousand by the end of September21st 2016. This figure is nearly twice the total population of the country."
This number of sim cards were given to more than 78 million and 805 thousand active subscribers and the rate of impact in proportion to population is 98.9 percent. This figure is among the highest in the world and it does not match with the Iranian society. The severity of the repression in Iranian society could be the cause. Particularly, the young people are eager to communicate and receive information in this way while the regime wants to deprive people of information.
On December 9th 2016, the Minister of Interior, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in his published remarks in the media admitted that regime’s official radio and TV have also lost their influence in the society.
Attorney-General of the Mullahs' regime, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri also said: “unfortunately, the political circles outside Iran want to hit us. In fact, they have declared a soft war against us."(The TV Channel of the regime, December 9, 2016)
Montazeri also admitted: “we are forced to close and filter 13 to 14 thousand network channels on average every week. These are the channels that commit different sorts of crimes, unfortunately."

But what is the reality? What is the Iranian regime afraid of and why?
On December 2nd 2016, a government cleric named Ali Movahedi-Kermani explicitly said that the Internet increases the tendency to join MEK and it creates mental perversion."
Another cleric of the regime named Ahmad Khatami in the Friday prayer of Tehran said: “is this the freedom of speech to create an atmosphere for some people to chant norm-breaking slogans? Unfortunately, it has also become routine in some student meetings."(The TV Channel of the Iranian regime, December 9th 2016)
It shows that a war is going on between the youths and frustrated people and the Iranian regime in the cyberspace.
So we can conclude that the Iranian regime is scared of the slightest gaps in the wall of repression, since as soon as the fractions open up, the slogans of "Long Live Freedom" and "Death to Dictator" will be chanted and will lead to public unrests and uprising.
